Multinational coffee companies now rule our shopping malls and supermarkets and dominate the industry worth over $80 billion, making coffee the most valuable trading commodity in the world after oil.

But while we continue to pay for our lattes and cappuccinos, the price paid to coffee farmers remains so low that many have been forced to abandon their coffee fields.

Nowhere is this paradox more evident than in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. Tadesse Meskela is one man on a mission to save his 74,000 struggling coffee farmers from bankruptcy. As his farmers strive to harvest some of the highest quality coffee beans on the international market, Tadesse travels the world in an attempt to find buyers willing to pay a fair price.

Against the backdrop of Tadesse’s journey to London and Seattle, the enormous power of the multinational players that dominate the world’s coffee trade becomes apparent. New York commodity traders, the international coffee exchanges, and the double dealings of trade ministers at the World Trade Organisation reveal the many challenges Tadesse faces in his quest for a long term solution for his farmers.

It was another normal day in Dayton, Ohio…until trouble struck. A man robbing a liquor store steals a 1995 white SUV and decides to go for a little joyride. He thinks he’s going to make a clean getaway…but the cops have a thing or two to say about that. And so do I…because I’m in the car with him…right now. And I just had five cups of justice-flavored coffee…and cant stop sneering. He’s looking at me weird. We’ll see how weird he looks, when he gets five years…in the big house.

I lost my job about a year ago, as many of us have. It’s daunting and scary, the trick is not to let the grass grow beneath your feet. Keep moving, decide what your strengths are in life, make some fundamental changes in your life. Use those to make money. I am passionate about coffee and excellent customer service. I am very much a people-person with a well honed sense of humour. I have a sense for flair and showmanship just like the guy in the video. The aforementioned attributes are perfect for a Barista. So I have left sales and enough KPI’s to sink an Aircraft Carrier behind me. This is not me in the video – I just wanted some very cool footage of what Baristi do and how they can make people’s days better. Let the Java Gold flow. Betty’s Lazy Day Cinnamon Toast Recipe

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her Lazy Day Cinnamon Toast recipe. Have you ever eaten cinnamon toast topped with a crisp, cinnamon-flavored meringue? Well, this is it! You’ve got to try it! It’s the best–and so simple!

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 well-beaten egg
10 slices white bread (I used hearty white bread.)

Combine the cinnamon and sugar. Add the egg to the cinnamon-sugar mixture in a small bowl and blend thoroughly. Spread 1 heaping tablespoon of the topping on one side of each slice of bread. Spread as many slices as desired and place them on a baking sheet (spread side up). Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees. Cinnamon toast is always great to cheer everyone up on a gray, drizzly day! It’s fantastic with flavored coffee or hot chocolate!!!

I totally lol-ed when ben said “im a sissy” that wuz awesome. Anywayz this is Ben Folds at the Myth in Maplewood October 17. He played from his album Way To Normal. free coffee. If im correct, he used altoids to make his piano sound like that (and a distortion pedal) Hilarious when Ben did the africa thingymagig. The best concert of my young life. BEN IS MY HERO!
