Do unground coffee beans go bad over time?
Feb 16th, 2010 by Coffee Lover
We recently ground coffee beans that had remained in our cabinet for possibly two years. When ground, the taste was not good. Is it possible they have lost their flavor?

Probably you need to store beans or ground coffee tightly in the freezer.

yes. it is best if they are vacuum sealed

I would be more inclined to believe they were stored improperly and had bugs or mold from being damp
but yes they can go bad

After beans are roasted it is recommended they be used within 3 months.

They certainly will lose their strength and flavour unless sealed well – and even then you might want to use them before two years to get maximum taste

Throw them away.
Our coffee is vacuum packed immediately after roasting and grinding so that you get the freshest coffee possible. Our special one-way valve bag releases the natural gases produced by roasting. Unopened, this coffee will stay fresh for one year. Once opened, coffee should be consumed within a week for optimal taste and freshness. Remember that the natural enemies of coffee are air, moisture and heat. So always store your coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dry place

i agree with chris w.
i’ve worked in a coffee shop before and beans, once opened have a shelf-life of 1 week (and the storage should be airtight, of course).
