Can I bring roasted coffee beans into Switzerland?
Feb 11th, 2010 by Coffee Lover
I’ll have a trip to Switzerland, canI bring a little roasted coffee beans (200g) into Switzerland?
Yes you can.
Website of the Swiss Federal Customs Administration:
"For as long as it has been imported personally, food (with the exception of alcoholic drinks) for personal consumption at one’s own home is, in principle, tax free up to the allowance of CHF 300.-."
http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_privat/essen_trinken/00356/index.html?lang=en
To avoid problems with airport security you shouldn’t carry the coffee in your hand luggage.
Enjoy your trip.

this answer has to be twofold. a) customs: YES, definitely, you are allowed to bring a little bag of (roasted) coffee beans to Switzerland, without paying custom duties on it. b) Flight security: You are allowed to bring coffee beans with you – it’s no liquid.
That’s your answer: 2x Yes. HOWEVER, I don’t understand why you want to bring coffee to Switzerland. In Switzerland you have some of the best coffees in the world (well, of course they import it but then they roast it there…). Also, world class coffee gets imported so you won’t miss your coffee. Also, a lot of people smuggle drugs hidden in coffee beans because it covers the smell of drugs and dogs won’t smell it. Therefore, you may get in big trouble if you import coffee, even though you won’t do anything illegally.
Btw – the best coffee can be found in Zurich: http://www.schwarzenbach.ch/ and you can watch every Wednesday how they roast their own coffee.
